 Carrie Jones
I would like to serve on the Iowa AEYC State Governing Board, Executive Committee because Iowa AEYC’s vision and mission align closely with my own in regards to Early Childhood Education. I believe that early childhood is the most important part of a human’s growth and development. I would enjoy the opportunity to be a leader on the Governing Board and would do my very best to ensure that discussions and decisions are made with the vision and mission of Iowa AEYC as a guide.
Mary Lukas
I’m a former home childcare provider and I am a Speech Language Pathologist. My personal and professional passion is for ALL children to prepare for future successes. The best way to ensure that is to support the adults charged with their care, and to influence the system in which that care occurs. This is a time for action. Our profession will change and be changed in the coming years, and I’m eager to join with others who are passionate about childhood and uplifting our early childhood profession.

Hi!!  My name is Dayna "Joy" Brown. I am the Director/Teacher at Trinity Preschool in Creston, Iowa. I have been teaching for over 15 years, previously I was a licensed home day care provider. I have been serving on the Iowa Association of the Education of Young Children (Iowa AEYC) Governing Board since October 2010. I have been a member of the NAEYC since 2008. During my duration on the board I have learned a lot about the board positions and I think that Vice President would be an interesting task to fulfill. I attend regular board meetings, I promote NAEYC, Iowa AEYC, CDA, Teach program, and I encourage the public to consider becoming members of their local chapters. I visit with legislatures at the Capitol concerning important issues that need to be addressed. Thank you for considering me in this position as Vice President of Iowa AEYC, your support is greatly appreciated.

Since entering the field in 1992, I've been blessed by numerous opportunities for mentoring, growth, and leadership. As a long time member of Iowa AEYC, I've served in the roles of Chapter Representative, Public Policy Chair, Early Childhood Workforce Advisory Group member, and Power to the Profession work group member. While not able to commit right now to the roles of President Elect or President, I am quite interested in serving as Vice President. In my view, the continued success of Iowa AEYC depends on ensuring a smooth transition from the Merrill reign to the new Executive Director. While there clearly will be differences in execution of the work, communication around what is going well, where gaps may lie, and other critical factors surface. Supporting the Executive Director in identifying those and sharing tips and tricks in working through them as a board suits my own strengths and experiences.

As I look back on my years in early childhood education, there is a piece missing. That piece is working with the IAEYC Governing Board to continue to grow as a state leader in early childhood. Much of my experiences as a teacher and consultant have been in special education, the past 6 years my focused has changed to making a difference for all students. I am passionate about my continued growth and ongoing learning. I have attached a video that has given me motivation extend myself beyond Heartland AEA. Thank you for accepting my application to IAEYC Governing Board.
Brandy Smith
I have been an educator for over 20 years, having served as a public school teacher, Level 5 in-home childcare provider, trainer and adjunct instructor at both local community and 4-year-colleges. I am currently the Project Coordinator for the National Program for Playground Safety, providing on-line and face-to-face trainings to the early childhood work force around quality outdoor environments and in the middle of my Doctoral Program at the University of Northern Iowa. My career goal is to someday teach in an Early Childhood College Program in our state. Over my years in education, I has developed a passion for the professional development of those that care for and educate young children.
Having served as you Secretary for the last several years, I have an appreciation and understanding for the critical role Iowa AEYC serves in our state. I have a passion for helping those that work in the tireless and sometimes thankless jobs in the early childhood field. I deeply care about the children of our state and believe the best way to support them is through the support and education of the caring adults that help them every day. Iowa AEYC helps with that support and education role and I want to do my part to support the organization.
