Mental Health Consultant
The Iowa Association for the Education of Young Children is seeking a strong candidate to serve as a Mental Health Consultant on the Early Childhood Quality Improvement Project (ECQuIP).
A full-time professional-level position is currently available. Occasional evenings and Saturdays and travel are required. The Iowa AEYC office is located in NW Des Moines. Position will provide on-site consultation support to an identified coalition of child care centers serving low-income families.
Required: Master’s degree in Social Work (LSW) or closely related field required, and a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in children’s mental health work.  We seek to find a strong early childhood professional with a commitment to professional development, above average attention to detail, a passion for the field of early childhood education, and the ability to be a team player.
Essential Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
An awareness and understanding of mental health disorders in young children
An understanding of appropriate child development and social/emotional development
An understanding of the functions of behaviors and appropriate interventions to address challenging behaviors
Knowledge of brain development and trauma and the ability to effectively communicate the related information
Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, verbal communication, and public speaking skills
Ability to proficiently utilize a computer, including MS Office applications and database management
Ability to interact professionally with a variety of people and provide leadership
